How Much Does a Frameless Shower Door Cost in Virginia?

April 10, 2025 · Pricing

Frameless, Semi-Frameless, or Framed

The biggest cost driver is which style you choose. Framed doors are the least expensive since they use thinner glass supported by an aluminum frame. Semi-frameless splits the difference. Fully frameless doors use thick tempered glass (typically 3/8" to 1/2") with minimal hardware to hold everything in place, which is both more expensive in materials and more demanding to install correctly.

Glass Thickness and Hardware Finish

Thicker glass costs more, and it's not optional for frameless doors — the glass itself has to provide the structural rigidity that a frame would otherwise supply. Hardware finish (chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, brass) also affects price, along with whether you're choosing standard hinges and handles or a more custom hardware package.

Custom Sizing Adds Cost — But It's Usually Necessary

Very few showers are perfectly standard dimensions, especially in older homes. Frameless glass is typically custom-measured and cut for your specific opening rather than ordered off a shelf, which is part of why it costs more than a prefabricated framed unit — but it's also why it fits and seals properly.

Getting an Accurate Quote

Because so much depends on your specific bathroom — shower size, tile condition, whether it's a new installation or a replacement — the most reliable way to get a real number is an in-person measurement and quote rather than a phone estimate.
