A door closer that slams, doesn't fully latch, or swings too fast isn't just annoying — it's putting repeated stress on the glass and frame with every open-and-close cycle. Closers can usually be re-adjusted rather than replaced if caught early.
High-traffic commercial doors put a lot of load on hinges or continuous (piano) hinges. Listen for squeaking, watch for a door that's started to sag or drag on the threshold, and address it before the misalignment starts stressing the glass itself.
Grit and debris in door tracks and hardware accelerate wear on rollers, closers, and locking mechanisms. Regular cleaning is inexpensive insurance against hardware failures.
A small chip near the edge of a tempered glass panel can, in some cases, be the starting point for a spontaneous break later, especially with temperature swings. Small damage is far cheaper to address — or monitor properly — than a full panel replacement after it's spread.
For businesses with heavy foot traffic, an annual check of door hardware, seals, and glass condition catches problems while they're still minor repairs instead of emergency replacements.
